Vaginal pH Test Strips

  • Test your pH before and during treatment so you know it's working.
  • Healthy vaginal pH is 4.5. Menopausal pH is 6-7. Let's change that and get a healthy vagina! It will take 6-12 weeks to get into this range once you start using vaginal creams and hormone replacement.
  • Detect infections and issues early by continually monitoring pH.
  • Rapid and accurate results in just 30 seconds.
  • Insert a cotton swab (not included) into the vagina to moisten it. It is then applied onto the pH test pad on the test strip.
  • A pH number is determined by comparing the color of the pH test pad to the color chart.
  • A normal vaginal pH is 4.5.
  • An elevated vaginal pH in the 5.0 to 6.5 range suggests a diagnosis of either bacterial pathogens or decreased serum estradiol. In the absence of bacterial pathogens, in symptomatic peri and menopausal women, a vaginal pH of 6.0 to 7.5 is strongly suggestive of menopause.
  • As you continue treatment with vaginal cream and systemic hormone replacement medications such as the patch/pill/low dose birth control, you vaginal pH should begin to change until it reaches 4.5. You can track your progress by tracking your pH.

  • Understand the need to continue therapy for at least 6 months to a year to assess full benefits and that discontinuing the medication may lead to a reversal of gains.
  • The initial shedding of hair when starting oral minoxidil is a common phenomenon and is generally a sign that the medication is beginning to work. The shedding usually occurs early in treatment, often within the first 2 to 8 weeks.

  • Ketoconazole aids in controlling sebum production on the scalp, reducing dandruff and preventing hair follicle blockage, thereby facilitating unimpeded hair growth.
  • Regular use of ketoconazole shampoo may enhance hair density and follicle size, likely owing to its anti-inflammatory and anti-androgenic properties that foster a healthier hair growth environment.
  • Ketoconazole shampoo treats scalp fungal infections, preventing them from causing hair loss by protecting the scalp and hair follicles from damage.
  • Use 2x per week
  • Wet Your Hair: Soak hair with warm water to open cuticles and pores for effective shampoo penetration.
  • Wash Hair First: Wash and rinse well with your regular shampoo. This prepares the scalp skin to be clean and stimulated. Do not use conditioner.
  • Apply the Shampoo: Use enough ketoconazole shampoo to cover the scalp and roots only. Do not lather onto hair shaft (not effective), the focus is the scalp skin and base of hair root.
  • Lather and Massage: Gently massage the scalp to spread the shampoo evenly and boost blood circulation.
  • Leave It On: Keep the shampoo on the scalp for 5-10 minutes to allow its antifungal and anti-inflammatory actions.
  • Rinse Thoroughly: Wash off the shampoo with warm water, ensuring no residue is left to prevent scalp irritation. Apply conditioner to the hair length and try to avoid the scalp.
  • Scalp Conditions: While ketoconazole shampoo is used to treat specific scalp conditions, those with open sores, wounds, or acute inflammation on the scalp should consult a healthcare provider before use, as it may cause irritation or worsen the condition.
  • Allergic Reactions: Individuals who are allergic to ketoconazole or any other ingredients in the shampoo should not use it. Signs of an allergic reaction can include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Although topical ketoconazole is generally considered safe, there is limited research on its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • FDA approved medication used off label for hair loss.

Oxytocin Spray

  • Research shows oxytocin can be beneficial particularly in women experiencing low sexual desire or arousal difficulties.
  • Oxytocin may enhance genital blood flow by relaxing vascular smooth muscle, improving vaginal lubrication and clitoral sensitivity.
  • Research suggests oxytocin enhances tactile sensitivity in erogenous zones, making physical touch more pleasurable.
  • Intranasal oxytocin significantly enhanced orgasm intensity and satisfaction, possibly by boosting dopamine and serotonin activity.
  • Take one or two spays nasally 30-45 minutes before sexual activity.
  •  A low dose is recommended to evaluate individual response.
  • Effects typically last 1-2 hours
  • Dose is typically escalated as you get used to it. 
  • Intended for occasional use to maintain effectiveness (2-3x/week)
  • Using oxytocin alongside natural bonding activities (e.g., touch, sexual playfulness, relaxing intimate activites, eye contact, intimacy) may sustain its positive effects.
  • If oxytocin is overused as a shortcut for connection or arousal without bonding type activities (massage, cuddling, skin to skin contact, non genital touching) it does not work as well. Emotional state is key. This is the love and bonding hormone use it that way for best outcome.

Oxytocin is generally well-tolerated, but potential side effects include:

  • Headache
  • Nasal irritation (with nasal sprays)
  • Mild dizziness
  • Emotional sensitivity (oxytocin can amplify existing emotions — positive or negative)
 

 Medications that may interact with Oxytocin. The ARNP can provide guidance if you take any of these meds and are interested in trying Oxytocin.

  • Individuals with mood disorders (as oxytocin can heighten emotional responses)
  • Those with low blood pressure (oxytocin may induce mild hypotension). Do not combine with viagra.
  • Individuals taking medications that affect dopamine or serotonin levels such as SSRIs, MAOIs
  • Those taking opoids, alcohol (may cause drowsiness), Metoclopramide, Benzodiazepines (e.g., diazepam, lorazepam)

  • Medications if prescribed are purchased via Bloom Health as insurance will not cover off label use for a diagnosis they won't recognize (leaky gut, adrenal fatigue, food sensativity, etc). Sometimes we use compounded drugs and peptides which insurance will not cover.
  • Affordable lab testing is prioritized and we can usually get the information we need from standard labs that your insurance typically covers. (Medicare can be trickier as they won't pay for screening labs or more in depth labs.) There could be additional fees if further testing is recommended.
  • Please note: One visit is just the starting point of your functional medicine journey. While we’ll begin with a personalized base plan at your initial consultation, ongoing care over multiple visits is needed to make adjustments, manage medications, and support lasting improvement. This can take months to years with several visits at your pace.
  • It's recommended to follow up with another appointment in 2-3 months. Simple questions and reporting your response to treatment can be sent via the patient portal in between visits.
  • Addressing additional health topics require a separate Zoom visit and care plan.
  • Functional medicine treatments do not work as well if your hormones are not in balance. It's recommended you join the HRT clinic and get your hormones optimized first or in conjunction with functional medicine therapy.
