Yes! We only treat a small part of women’s health related to menopause. You still need pap smears, mammograms and general care. Bloom is not a replacement.

For simple you can email/text inside the patient portal under the tab “Messages.”

Treatments

It typically takes a full 3 months to really start enjoying the effects of HRT. However, symptoms like hot flashes and night sweats typically see results sooner.  Other products for vaginal dryness and bladder issues require time for the tissue to repair and heal. This is typically 10-12 weeks.

If you are having menopausal symptoms and have not had a period in 12 months you are likely to be in menopause.  If your still having periods, even irregular ones, you are in perimenopause.  Typical age for perimenopause is 40’s and menopause 50’s.  We are happy to grab a set of labs to check your hormone levels.

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT) is generally well-tolerated, but some women may experience side effects, especially in the first few months as the body adjusts. Common side effects can include:

  • Breast tenderness

  • Bloating or fluid retention

  • Mood changes or PMS-like symptoms

  • Headaches

  • Spotting or irregular bleeding

  • A return of bleeding or a “period” after years without one (usually temporary, but should be reported)

  • Mild weight gain or changes in body composition

These side effects often improve with time or dose adjustments. More serious risks—like blood clots or breast cancer—are rare and depend on your personal health history and the type of HRT used. Your provider will help you choose a plan that balances benefits and risks for your individual needs.

Labs

If you have health insurance we use Quest and can submit labs electronically.  Otherwise we’ll provide you with a lab slip. These are considered diagnostic labs so may be subject to your deductible.  It’s your responsibility to check if they are covered. Your deductible cost may be higher than paying cash.

You’ll need to send a copy of results to us through the patient portal.

It takes 2 weeks for labs to come back. Schedule accordingly so you don’t run out of medication.

Here are the self-pay lab pricing options:

Estrogen/progesterone labs $135 and repeated once yearly.

For women starting HRT for first time in 10 years since last period $200.  Please read our blog article detailing starting at an older age here.

Most women do not need labs to get started. If you are currently taking HRT we will get labs to check your levels.  We check labs around the 8-10 week mark after starting HRT to assess levels. Once optimized we check labs yearly. Before starting testosterone labs are required and again at the 12 week mark and again once yearly once stable.

Medications

Bloom orders are sent via US mail, so in most cases that means three to five days from the time of your order.

You can cancel or make changes at any time before your order ships. Once a tracking number is provided we can not make changes. If you want to change the dose, route, form before you have used your 3 month supply schedule a zoom visit to discuss with the ARNP.  A new prescription will be issued and to purchase inside the patient dashboard. Discard any unused medication. We can’t take it back or give a credit or refund.

All of our products are bio-identical.

Bloom Health dispenses FDA approved generic, bioidentical medications.  We also have access via our compounding partners to create specialized compounded medications according to your individual needs.

Our generic medications are FDA approved and may be used off label.  This includes the estrogen patches, gel, pills and vaginal estrogen tablets and cream as well as oral progesterone pills.   We also use compounded medications that are not FDA approved.

Medication Supply & Adjustments
If your prescriptions are filled through Bloom, we ship a 3-month supply at a time. If you’re currently using the patch and would like to switch to a daily gel (or another form), we’re happy to make that change — but please note that medications cannot be returned, and a new 3-month supply will need to be purchased.

Why 3 months?
Because it typically takes at least that long to see the full effects of hormone therapy. HRT is not an instant result/relief type of therapy and rather builds over time. We won’t adjust your dosage sooner than that, but we can change the delivery method (patch, gel, or cream) if needed.

No problem! We can prescribe custom formulations.  However there may be a small additional fee.
