Progesterone Oral Pills

  • For women still having periods even if irregular.
  • Helpful for perimenopausal symptoms including insomnia, low sex drive, painful breasts, PMS, heavy bleeding during periods or very light, depression, mood swings, anxiety, irritability, acne.
  • Combine with vaginal cream if also experienceing bladder/vaginal issues.

Estradiol Vaginal for Face

  • Yes! You can use your vaginal cream on your face to get the same benefits as estriol compounded cream at a reduced cost. This is considered off label use.
  • Collagen Stimulation: Estradiol increases collagen production, enhancing skin structure and reducing wrinkles.
  • Skin Hydration: It helps to boost skin moisture retention, making skin plump and smooth, lessening wrinkle appearance.
  • Skin Thickness: Estradiol helps thicken skin, providing better support and potentially lessening wrinkle depth.

  • Lab Corp Test: Visit a local LabCorp for a blood draw. Results typically come back within 1 week.
  • Required re-testing at 8 weeks after therapy starts. It may take 6-8 months to fine-tune your individual dose. Any time we increase or decrease dose another lab test is required. Once optimal, we repeat labs yearly.

Tretinoin Face Cream

  • Elasticity Improvement: Aids in restoring skin elasticity lost due to decreased collagen production.
  • Fine Lines and Wrinkle Reduction: Targets and reduces the appearance of deeper lines and wrinkles common in menopausal skin.
  • Improved Skin Texture: Promotes smoother skin and improved texture affected by hormonal changes.
  • Supports Skin Renewal: Encourages cell turnover, vital for mature skin to maintain a healthy appearance.
  • Dark Spot Treatment: Effective in reducing age spots and uneven skin tone intensified by menopause.
  • Use at night. Wash your face and if using moisturizer combine a pea size amount and apply to face. Combine with estradiol face cream for powerful results.
  • Avoid the eyelids and around mouth and nose.
  • Wear sunscreen.
  • Refrain from using skin products containing benzoyl peroxide, resorcinol, salicylic acid, or sulfur.
  • Start with applications every other night for the first 2-4 weeks, then increase to nightly as tolerated by your skin.
  • Avoid use during pregnancy or while breastfeeding.
  • Expect possible redness, mild burning, dryness, peeling, and sun sensitivity initially, which should lessen as the skin adjusts.
  • Use sunscreen with SPF 30+ every morning to protect against increased sun sensitivity.

Rapamycin

  •  Strengthening the skin barrier can enhance moisture retention and improve overall texture.
  • Early research suggests rapamycin may help reduce hyperpigmentation and age spots by improving cellular turnover and reducing oxidative stress.
  • As an anti-inflammatory, topical rapamycin may help calm skin conditions like rosacea, redness, and sensitivity.

Rapamycin targets cellular aging by addressing senescent cells — often called “zombie cells” — which are damaged cells that no longer function properly but still linger in the skin. These cells can accelerate aging by encouraging nearby healthy cells to become dysfunctional as well. This process contributes to visible signs of aging, such as wrinkles, dullness, and sun damage.

Using Rapamycin cream helps promote cellular repair by clearing out these zombie cells, supporting healthier skin function.

Recommended Routine for Best Results
  • Use Rapamycin cream for 2–3 months to focus on cellular cleanup and repair.
  • After completing a Rapamycin cycle, switch to Retin-A (tretinoin) for 2–3 months to stimulate new cell growth, improve skin texture, and accelerate skin turnover.

Alternating these treatments creates a powerful renewal cycle:

  • Rapamycin clears out damaged cells.
  • Retin-A stimulates fresh skin cell production and enhances collagen synthesis.

 

By cycling between repair and regeneration, you continuously refresh your skin, helping it look smoother, firmer, and more youthful.

This flexible routine allows you to combine your favorite anti-aging products while maximizing the unique benefits of Rapamycin and Retin-A.

  • Avoid in cases of pregnancy, breastfeeding, active infections, or compromised immunity.
  • Starting slowly, moisturizing consistently, and protecting your skin from UV exposure will reduce potential side effects.

Oral Minoxidil

  • Promotes Hair Growth: Extends the hair's growth phase, leading to longer, thicker hair.
  • Increases Density: Makes hair look fuller by increasing the number of hairs.
  • Versatile: Effective for male and female pattern hair loss and other types of alopecia.
  • Enhances Blood Flow: Improves blood supply to follicles, aiding growth.
  • Convenient: Easier daily intake as a pill, avoiding messy scalp applications.
  • Minoxidil should be taken at the same time each day to maintain stable serum levels.
  • Dosage is started at 1/4 of a tablet and titrated up slowly. You will need a pill cutter.
  • It can cause blood pressure to decrease slightly. We advise obtaining a home BP monitor.
  • Understand the need to continue therapy for at least 6 months to a year to assess full benefits and that discontinuing the medication may lead to a reversal of gains.
  • The initial shedding of hair when starting oral minoxidil is a common phenomenon and is generally a sign that the medication is beginning to work. The shedding usually occurs early in treatment, often within the first 2 to 8 weeks.
  • Potential Side Effects:

    Hypertrichosis: Unwanted hair growth on the face and body.
    Hypotension: Lowering of blood pressure.
    Tachycardia: Increased heart rate.
    Fluid Retention: Swelling in parts of the body, particularly the ankles and feet.
    Skin Rashes: Dermatologic reactions such as rashes.

    Please note, these are not all the possible side effects of oral minoxidil. Side effects can vary based on individual health conditions and the dosage used.
  • Not for use with these medications: Calcium channel blockers, ace inhibitors, nitroglycerin.

Ketoconazole 2% Shampoo

  • Ketoconazole shampoo can reduce scalp inflammation, a key factor in hair loss, by soothing the hair follicles, promoting a healthier scalp, and supporting hair growth
  • Ketoconazole may act as a mild DHT blocker, potentially reducing scalp DHT levels and slowing hair loss associated with androgenetic alopecia.
  • Ketoconazole aids in controlling sebum production on the scalp, reducing dandruff and preventing hair follicle blockage, thereby facilitating unimpeded hair growth.
  • Regular use of ketoconazole shampoo may enhance hair density and follicle size, likely owing to its anti-inflammatory and anti-androgenic properties that foster a healthier hair growth environment.
  • Ketoconazole shampoo treats scalp fungal infections, preventing them from causing hair loss by protecting the scalp and hair follicles from damage.
  • Use 2x per week
  • Wet Your Hair: Soak hair with warm water to open cuticles and pores for effective shampoo penetration.
  • Wash Hair First: Wash and rinse well with your regular shampoo. This prepares the scalp skin to be clean and stimulated. Do not use conditioner.
  • Apply the Shampoo: Use enough ketoconazole shampoo to cover the scalp and roots only. Do not lather onto hair shaft (not effective), the focus is the scalp skin and base of hair root.
  • Lather and Massage: Gently massage the scalp to spread the shampoo evenly and boost blood circulation.
  • Leave It On: Keep the shampoo on the scalp for 5-10 minutes to allow its antifungal and anti-inflammatory actions.
  • Rinse Thoroughly: Wash off the shampoo with warm water, ensuring no residue is left to prevent scalp irritation. Apply conditioner to the hair length and try to avoid the scalp.
  • Scalp Conditions: While ketoconazole shampoo is used to treat specific scalp conditions, those with open sores, wounds, or acute inflammation on the scalp should consult a healthcare provider before use, as it may cause irritation or worsen the condition.
  • Allergic Reactions: Individuals who are allergic to ketoconazole or any other ingredients in the shampoo should not use it. Signs of an allergic reaction can include rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness, and trouble breathing.
  • Pregnancy and Breastfeeding: Although topical ketoconazole is generally considered safe, there is limited research on its use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
  • FDA approved medication used off label for hair loss.

  • Medications if prescribed are purchased via Bloom Health as insurance will not cover off label use for a diagnosis they won't recognize (leaky gut, adrenal fatigue, food sensativity, etc). Sometimes we use compounded drugs and peptides which insurance will not cover.
  • Affordable lab testing is prioritized and we can usually get the information we need from standard labs that your insurance typically covers. (Medicare can be trickier as they won't pay for screening labs or more in depth labs.) There could be additional fees if further testing is recommended.
  • Please note: One visit is just the starting point of your functional medicine journey. While we’ll begin with a personalized base plan at your initial consultation, ongoing care over multiple visits is needed to make adjustments, manage medications, and support lasting improvement. This can take months to years with several visits at your pace.
  • It's recommended to follow up with another appointment in 2-3 months. Simple questions and reporting your response to treatment can be sent via the patient portal in between visits.
  • Addressing additional health topics require a separate Zoom visit and care plan.
  • Functional medicine treatments do not work as well if your hormones are not in balance. It's recommended you join the HRT clinic and get your hormones optimized first or in conjunction with functional medicine therapy.
